Luther posted the 95 Theses to rescue the church from its shallow roots of tradition and reliance on personal righteousness. Our good works and intentions can't save us or earn God's favor. But the gospel announces the victory Jesus won for all people. "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinth5:21).
